Our world is developing day after day where communications means are becoming exposed easily. Technology split our word into the virtual community which includes internet and the real community which includes the normal daily world where people communicate and see each other face to face. Personally I would prefer the real community rather than the virtual in two important factors like the means of communicaton and the identities. Those two factors I personally find them very important as they shape a person's personality. The means of communication and the identities are easier to express in real community rather the the virtual, because it is very important to know the person's personality and accordingly easily to judge. Where as virtually, a person is yet not in front of you, hence you can not judge the person, and you can not know their personality. I would like to share a personal experince, that made me think about this when discussed in class. Four years ago, in high school, I met an internet friend from Lebanon who was very close to me for a year. We used to chat daily for atleast an hour, having video conversations and we even exchanged numbers. Finally, I had to attend a friend's wedding in Tripoli, Lebanon. So I had to go to aerport in Beirut, since there is no aerports in Tripoli, and happened to meet my internet friend as she lived in Beirut. I was so excited to go meet my close internet friend who I was dying to see. I met her the next day, as I decided to spend 2 days in Beirut, so I can spend time with her. When I finally saw her, she appeared to be a total different person than the one I knew. I discovered that she wanted to use me rather than being close friends, which I would not know unless I met her personally. Expressions, images, eye contacts all of these factors help me knew her on "reality" . So this is what I mean by reality, because sooner or later all of us have to face reality . For instance if we have to attend interviews, meetings, outings with friends, we have to use our eye contacts, our expressions, body language and etc. Maybe virtual community can help us know new people can make communication easy with contacts abroad, but as I mentioned previouslly, sooner or later we have to meet those contacts. And we should not forget that we live in a real world not a virtual one.
Very nice Hanan. I have to say that I didnot agree with your point of view at the beginning but after reading the entire piece it made more since and thanks for sharing your experience with us
